When I was a youth, I sought the origins of everything.

Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are things the way they are? What is Real? Why are we here? What (or who) is this mystery called Life?

Could we place the seeds of all of the world's remaining cultures in one arc, to be opened when we have lost our connection to the soil, the trees, the beasts, the myths, and the Mystery itself?

To these questions, and to today's youth, I dedicate this site—that a new tree may someday sprout from the collected seeds of our ancestors.

It is my hope that both students and educators will find something here.

The Teaching link will eventually connect you to my thoughts and news on the tragic politics of public schools in the United States, as well as constructivist curricular projects I have designed for students, including information about the Making History Project.

The Storylinks will connect you to the living tradition of storytelling, the world's myriad myths and folktales online, and my own students' creative writing. They have worked very hard to refine their tales for publication.

The Antiquity links will link you to prehistoric, indiginous, or ancient traditions, arts, and technologies that the West has, for the most part, forgotten. If you're feeling alienated, you might look here (after reading a few fairy tales) to reconnect with lost skills such as tanning hides, dying wool, or building a papyrus boat.

The Artistry links will connect you to the world of artists and illustrators working in the field today, as well as to interesting museum links and folk tradtions still alive and kicking today.

Please contact me if you think you've found something that I should add a link to. If you've found a quality site which brings an ancient tradition or art alive today—particularly if it is eleven-year-old friendly—I'd love to connect your site to mine.
